Dirt

One of the sim's two existing surfaces, this is akin to real-life conventional dirt racing. In general races run in the western hemisphere are more likely to be run on dirt, though the popularity of bid races means that turf races can be and are run in desert locales such as Nevada.

Trainers are often concerned with the condition of a track's surface. In the sim, a dirt track can carry one of three condition ratings:

Fast

The fast track is the default condition. Many trainers prefer to run horses making a dirt debut on a fast track as it is the dirt condition most likely to be encountered later in the horse's career.

Good

The good track is one that is wet but not muddy. Trainers have the option when entering to elect to scratch if the surface is rated good when races are carded.

Sloppy

A sloppy track is muddy. Some trainers will seek out a sloppy rack (or a good one) when all else fails to produce a good fast dirt horse as a next possible variable to test. Trainers have the option when entering to elect to scratch if the surface is rated good when races are carded.

Turf

Firm

Good

Trainers have the option when entering to elect to scratch if the surface is rated good when races are carded.

Yielding

Trainers have the option when entering to elect to scratch if the surface is rated good when races are carded.

(X)

A tracked rated as (X) is one that was originally carded for the turf but due to rain has been moved to the dirt and is run on a surface rated sloppy.

Trainers have the option when entering to elect to scratch if the race is taken off the turf due to rain.

Future surfaces

There has been mention of adding additional surfaces to the sim at some future point. This would be the equivalent of real-life artificial surfaces, known in the indutsry by brand names ProRide, Cushion Track, Polytrack, etc.
