Got my first juvy graded winner this past weekend!

Arrokaza

Her dam was a G1 type at 9f so I am hoping she can keep stretching out. She'll go straight to the G1 Spinaway at Saratoga closing weekend as I want to start giving her plenty of rest between starts!

I'm up to 11 juvy stakes winning colts, and will have some in every graded at Saratoga, which for someone who worked the meet for 12 years is very exciting!

I have 3 thoughts about Dan's journey thus far.

1. The innovative approach which I have taken away from his experiment is not breeding early 2yos. A lot of people do that. No, the really groundbreaking advance is breeding early 2yos with your best routing mares. This flys contrary to all previous SIM thinking for getting a graded quality 3yo router. Previously a trainer would ask; why should I burn up starts in sprints that my horse likely isn't even adept at running in? I'll wait until the races get longer and stretch my horse out. Embracing the prospect of putting 4 or 5 starts onto runners who on first glance you may have debuted in an 8f MSW is a bold approach and an illuminating example of zigging when everyone else is zagging.

2. In my opinion, this method has shown a path for viable 2yo racing. One of the criticisms in the SIM is that 2yo racing doesn't feel like it does in real life. I'm not saying this experiment solves that riddle, but it provides a blueprint for trainers who want to experience intense high stakes 2yo racing.

3. This journey has been a smashing success. Regardless of how things turn out next year, I feel Dan's 2019 approach has been highly successful. I've had so much fun watching the progression that I'm jumping in next season (in a much smaller way) with 20 of my best dirt mares trying this schedule. It isn't just a case of imitation is the best form of flattery; it is the sheer fun of it. First, 2yos are easier to track because there are not as many stakes quality ones so you tend to know who is good. This allows you to develop a rivalry and know who you are racing against (or avoiding). Second, I've had just a small taste of the competition this season and that has been a thrilling game experience.

I know the course isn't over, but in my opinion, this has been a resounding success.
